Dubuque mayor to travel to DC for 'State Leaders Summit'
Dubuqueâs top elected official is bound for Washington, D.C., joining a coalition of leaders pushing for increased funding for global leadership efforts.
Mayor Roy Buol will visit D.C. on Monday, June 18, and Tuesday, June 19, according to a press release from the U.S. Global Leadership Coalition. The State Leaders Summit will feature more than 500 delegates from across the country.
Buol and others will urge U.S. lawmakers to fully fund the U.S. State Department and U.S. Agency for International Development. Federal officials have proposed slashing funding for the agencies by 30 percent, according to the release.
The issue is important to Iowa as the state exported more than $13 billion in goods last year, according to the release.
